A FATHER IN MOTION
Derick was nominated by his Godmother who is extraordinarily proud of this young man. When Prepared Love for Families (PL4F) received her nomination we were in awe of his selfless contribution.
Derick Brooks is a life-long mentor to young men in his community. His godmother said, “Beginning as a very young man himself, wise beyond his years, he took on the role of Big Brother to many young boys.” As Derick was just becoming a young man he knew what young boys without fathers needed. He dedicated his life to be there whenever they called. He has no biological children of his own, but he has graduated from the “Big Brother” role to the “Father” role of many sons.
We learned today when we presented Derick with this recognition that he has intentionally kept his same phone number for going on two decades because he knew the young boys would become young men and would still need to reach him. We were told by his godmother that he looked well into their future and knew he would never stop being a mentor for them. Just a few weeks ago one of the young men reached out to him and they shared hours of conversation. Now, that’s dedication!
Derick is very accomplished. He is a Certified Professional Life Coach, a Licensed Real Estate Professional, Board President-Elect at Little Rock Realtors Association, and a City of Little Rock Planning Commissioner.
Along with all of his accompishments past and present, Mr. Derick Brooks finds time to volunteer in his community. He has served as a volunteer mentor at Our House, has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity International, Arkansas Rice Depot, Board Member-Volunteer at Little Rock Realtor Association, and Chairman of the Diversity Committee at Arkansas Realtors® Association.
He has received many awards for his skills, but PL4F’s Father in Motion is the first recognition/award he has ever earned as a life-long mentor to boys and young men! He told us he doesn’t do this for the recognition, but he is honored to be recognized. Out of all of his accomplishments, and he has many, he considers mentoring to the youth as the most rewarding. When he spoke of his “sons” we felt his loving energy.

Derick is everything listed in this article and more. Derick is the real deal and a guy who is always there for those in need. He proves it over and over again. I am proud to call him friend.
Thank you Libby for certifying the contents of this article concerning Mr. Derick Brooks. Since meeting him, we do indeed agree he is the real deal. Each year we will search for even more “real deals” just like him. The world needs to see and acknowledge more special people like Mr. Brooks.
